Yogurt Parfait

Yogurt parfait is a delicious way to start your morning or for an afternoon snack!
Its loaded with nutrition!

Start with organic yogurt– Most organic yogurt have probiotics. Probiotics are good bacteria that will crowd out the harmful bacteria in your digestive tract. Bad bacteria seriously effects your immunity and overall health. It can cause digestive issues, bloating and acne! Antibiotics rid you of good and bad bacteria. And, unfortunately, when they come back, the bad bacteria can overtake the good bacteria! So probiotics is especially good after taking antibiotics. Also yogurt is packed with vitamins like potassium, phosphorus, riboflavin, iodine, zinc, B5 and B12.

berriesThen add some berries and banana. Berries are packed with antioxidants, like vitamin C. Vitamin C is responsible for the health of collagen. So if you want your skin to age well.. Eat your berries! Also, berries are mostly water. Its a wonderful way to keep hydrated and lose weight!

bananaBananas are packed with goodness! They are a great source of B6, manganese, vitamin C and potassium to name a few. In fact, its one of our main sources of potassium! Potassium is a mineral that helps with maintaining healthy blood pressure.

granolaLastly, add some granola! Granola is a great source of fiber, which helps digestion and constipation. Its also a good source of healthy fats. We all need fat, so if you chose healthy sources you are more likely not to crave the bad fat.

Being Healthy- One of My Favorite Tips For Overall Health (Part 3)- HONEY

I believe an overall healthy lifestyle is so much better than yo-yo dieting. Maintenance is key! Here is a health tip that has made a big difference in my health over the years! I will be sharing more health tips in future posts so look out for more great tips!

There are so many wonderful benefits of HONEY! Its not just a sweetener! Before we begin, there are different types of honey, so lets break it down a bit. Processed honey, that you typically buy at the grocery store is quite a bit cheaper than raw honey. Well there is a reason for that!

Processed honey has no traces of pollen. Raw honey does have traces of pollen, so in turn, it can help build an immunity to allergens so its wonderful for allergy sufferers. Also, when honey is pasteurized and processed, it loses its beneficial vitamins and enzymes. So when I refer to the benefits of honey I am speaking of raw honey. Processed honey does not have the same benefits! My personal favorites are Manuka honey and local raw honey.

So, what other uses does have honey have besides sweetening your tea???

  • Honey is incredibly hydrating! Did you know that honey is natural humectant? That means it draws moisture into the skin. The humectant qualities of honey are incredible!
  • Honey also has antimicrobial and antioxidant properties!
  • The antimicrobial properties make it a super acne fighter! Most of the time, acne is caused by the build-up of oil and dirt on skin. Since honey absorbs impurities from the pores on the skin, it acts as a great cleanser. Honey is also a natural antiseptic, and soothes and heals your skin. Use it all over your face or troubled areas as a spot treatment and it will eat away at the bacteria! The result is clear skin!!                          Note: If your acne is caused by hormones or a reaction to something honey may not completely clear it.
  • The antioxidants neutralize the free radicals that are responsible for the signs of aging! So start now and use it on a regular basis (three times a week) for beautiful smooth skin for years!

To treat your face with honey.. Simply wash your face then slather a layer of honey on your skin and leave for 15 min or as long as you like… And rinse with warm water.

  • Honey can contribute to weight loss!

Add honey, lemon and cinnamon to warm water and drink everyday on an empty stomach. This is a great way to cleanse your liver, remove toxins and flush fat! Honeys “sugar” affects the body differently than table sugar. Researchers have found that, in most people, honey helps with weight loss and prevents weight gain. Lemons have compounds called  polyphenols that have been found to suppress weight gain and improve blood sugar levels. Cinnamon has been shown to reduce inflammation in the body and improves insulin’s ability to metabolize blood sugar.

The combination makes for a great weight loss drink!

  •  This drink is also great for boosting your immune system! Drink everyday on an empty stomach to keep away the flu and common cold. For kids with night time cough or upper respiratory tract infection,take one to two tablespoons of honey before bed.

Honey is antibacterial.

  • This makes it wonderful for cuts, scrapes and burns. Applied topically, honey promotes rapid tissue repair. And keeps wounds sterile, preventing further infection.

  • Honey soothes indigestion. The antiseptic properties of honey relieve acidity in the stomach and improve digestion. Honey also neutralizes gas and soothes your stomach! Take one or two tablespoons before a heavy meal to prevent indigestion. Or, add honey and lemon to warm water and drink after a heavy meal to help move food through the digestive tract.

Where do I begin! There are SO many benefits to Coconut Oil. To start, I recommend using Organic Extra Virgin, Cold Pressed Coconut Oil. I just picked up a great one at Costco.

My favorite use for Coconut Oil is for my skin. It is our largest organ so we may as well take care of it, right! Skin naturally produces an oil called sebum.. When sebum mixes with too much dirt, bacteria, and dead skin cells it can clog pores and lead to acne and other blemishes. Coconut oil naturally clears away dirt, grime, and dead skin cells. It even has some antibacterial properties, killing off harmful bacteria. So its wonderful for acne! It softens the skin so it helps with wrinkles, giving your skin a smoother appearance.  It aids in healing cuts, scrapes and bug bites. Its also an antioxidant so it helps prevent cellular aging.

I use it to clean my face. It does a great job removing makeup! I also use a blend of Coconut Oil and Organic sugar as a scrub for my face and body. It feels luxurious! Your skin will feel smooth and hydrated.

Did you know that Coconut oil is a natural sunscreen!? It is only about an SPF 4 so you still need to apply sunscreen. But it helps for every day use! All natural sunscreen! So go ahead and throw it in your beach bag!

Another wonderful use for Coconut Oil is as a hair mask! Coconut oil reduces protein loss for both damaged and undamaged hair. Coconut oil is hydrophobic, meaning it repels water. When its applied as a pre-wash conditioner, it inhibits the penetration of water into each strand, which would otherwise cause the cuticle, or surface of the hair shaft, to rise, making it prone to damage and breakage. Also,  when its applied as a pre-wash treatment, a small amount is able to penetrate deeper into the hair shaft during the wash, when the hair fiber swells slightly. So its fabulous for people who struggle with frizzy hair! I recommend this to my clients all the time!

I usually comb it through my hair and massage into my scalp one evening a week. Braiding your hair keeps it from getting all over everything. I put it on in the evening and sleep with it. (You may need to put a towel or old pillow case over your pillow) And I shampoo it out in the morning. I always shampoo twice, then condition.

There are so many other uses and benefits of Coconut Oil. I could go on and on!

It seems not a lot of people are aware of the many benefits of Turmeric. For me it has been a go to spice for years! I personally take it in pill form, because its quick. But you can cook or make a tea with the powdered form. I do use the powder form to create a DIY face mask which I will be sharing with you in a future post.

turneric1 turmeric2There are so many benefits to turmeric. I encourage you to do your own research. I have used it for inflammation!* Its a great alternative to ibuprofen. I once had Bursitis in my shoulder! It got to the point that it was so painful I could barely get dressed. I have a high tolerance to pain and I was in tears. I had been taking Ibuprofin every four hours and it was only getting worse! I started taking Turmeric, along with Bromelain, and the pain began to subside within one hour! I continued taking it every for hours for that day and every eight hours the following day. The Bursitis completely went away! And never returned!

I also suffer from dry eye which causes inflammation in my eyes. My eyes water really bad when this inflammation sets in. As soon as I start getting watery eyes I take a Turmeric and the inflammation is gone!

Turmeric is an antioxidant. Its packed with vitamins and minerals. Its a thermogenic so it supports your metabolism and helps burn calories. Its great for digestion. It supports healthy joints. It also helps neutralize substances that cause cellular stress. The curcumin found in Turmeric helps to maintain healthy cholesterol levels and helps to maintain healthy blood and liver functions.

   It promotes radiant skin! In some cultures its considered a “skin food.” It is wonderful for acne and acne scars. It normalizes skin tone and hyperpigmentation. Its great for skin elasticity!

So give Turmeric a try! See if it helps your overall health as it has helped mine!
